A new release of SDCC, the portable optimizing compiler for STM8, MCS-51, DS390, HC08, S08, Z80, Z180, Rabbit, SM83, eZ80 in Z80 mode, Z80N, TLCS-90, 6502, Padauk and PIC microprocessors is now available. Sources, documentation and binaries for GNU/Linux amd64, Windows amd64, macOS amd64 and Windows x86 are available.
ProtoJS is small (5x5cm) board with a minimal S08JS implementation and a standard 100mil prototyping area. While similar in features to our microJS, protoJS is more suited to permanently wire simple one off USB projects.

Our staff has been working with Freescale to negotiate the release of S08 header files under a free software license to allow their inclusion in the SDCC distribution.
After more than one year of work and the superstar effort of Jim Trudeau at Freescale we finally received the package under the BSD 3-clause license.
The SDCC team has been quite busy lately and they managed to put out yet another great release of the best free software compiler for microcontrollers. Version 3.2.0 adds S08 support (making our staff incredibly happy) and revives the support for gbz80.

The freescale S08JS series is one of the lowest cost microcontrollers with a hardware USB implementation. The availability of free C development tools (SDCC and Codewarrior) make the S08JS a great candidate to develop all sorts of inexpensive USB gadgets. microJS is a fully functional S08JS minimal system on a PCB less than a square inch. The board headers can be plugged into a breadboard for prototyping or soldered to another PCB for a permanent placement.
